PUBLIC IMAGE MANAGEMENT EXAMPLES
Distinguishing from the Crowd
During the 2008 Democratic Primary there were four candidates for Arizona’s 1st Congressional District. Mary Kim Titla, a former television journalist, needed to break free from the pack and get noticed. Jerry Duff (BlueDynamic Partner) was enlisted to provide strategic polling, develop message content, and secure paid media for her campaign. BlueDynamic developed a poll that identified key primary supporters; the Titla campaign was then able to allocate its resources efficiently by targeting precincts using mailers, phones, volunteer canvassing, radio spots, and television commercials. The polling also allowed for increased fund raising and the development of two important messages. First, Titla emphasized that she was the first Native American Woman to run for Congress in Arizona by adopting the slogan “change only you can make.” Second, voters remembered her name because of Titla’s signature telephone, radio, and television commercial endings: “I hear you, loud and clear.” Even though she was outspent 5 to 1 by the candidate backed by the national Democratic Coordinated Campaign Committee, she managed to get 33% of the vote and register thousands of new voters on the Arizona Native American reservations.
Creative Outreach
As the Executive Director of Teach For America, Jason Williams (BlueDynamic Managing Partner) began his five-year tenure by inheriting a program ranked last in the nation. As a strong believer in setting ambitious goals, Jason immediately identified and implemented several unique and creative strategies to invest teachers and community leaders in moving the Teach For America Phoenix program from last to first place within three years. Beyond monthly school breakfasts and linking funders with individual teachers through the “Sponsor A Teacher” initiative, the Teach For America regional board membership was greatly enhanced and combined with a new regional honorary board. These boards pooled their resources to put on an annual Gala where the “Homeroom Heroes” and “Corporate Laureate” community recognition awards are presented. As a result of increased expectations and dynamic community investment techniques, the Teach For America Phoenix program went from last to first place within three years under Jason’s leadership.

Experience in Education
Less than 16% of Arizona’s low-income students in the 9th grade are likely to enroll in college within five years. Access to information about college has been identified as the greatest factor that contributes to this low college-going rate. Recognizing that business and community leaders are becoming increasingly aware of the need to dramatically improve Arizona’s college completion rate to ensure our status as an knowledge based economy with an educated workforce, Jason Williams (BlueDynamic Managing Partner) sought to promote college access in Phoenix by leading the implementation of The College Depot project starting in 2007. The College Depot is designed to improve students’ access to the necessary information for planning, financial aid, and admission to college. In order to successfully launch this project, Jason secured approximately $1,500,000 through various foundations and corporations, as well as Community Development Block Grants from the City of Phoenix. In addition, collaborative partnerships were established with several public and private sector organizations such as the City of Phoenix (Youth and Education Office, Burton Barr Central Library, and Human Services Department – Youth Services Division), the Arizona Community Foundation, the Arizona Commission on Post Secondary Education, the Arizona College Scholarship Foundation, Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University GEAR UP, University of Arizona, Maricopa Community Colleges, Phoenix Union High School District and its 13 feeder elementary school districts, including Roosevelt School District.
